Coffee

This one is for you Aunt Beatrice! I vowed to look at every area of my spending in my summer of saving adventure even COFFEE! So here is how it usually goes. I have a Kerig coffee maker that uses those k-cups. I purchased the Kerig because my family gets up at different times and likes different strength of coffee. I like a dark roast and the kids are a more mild roast. We had a one cup drip coffee maker but being that we are all lazy and tired in the morning we found the whole measuring coffee and filling with water for each cup to be a pain. The Kerig seems to be the answer.
*If I am having trouble with morning motivation or if there is a parking spot open I will stop at Starbucks for a medium coffee to go on my way to school. I notice that as the school year goes on the frequency of these stops goes up. The price is $2.10 for a medium coffee.
I shop for k-cups at the grocery store and have gotten into the routine of buying the same box and to be honest not even giving it any thought. I checked today and was shocked to see that I was paying $8.99 for 10 k-cups (the kids milder blend a little less). That is 90 cents for a cup of coffee that I make at home!
I did a little research and found that one can "google" an item and it will give you the price at many different stores at once. The best deal I found was on a dark roast coffee at Bed, Bath and Beyond. Their website showed 60 k-cups for $19.99 which is 33 cents a cup. The brand is new to me, Count Victor Allen French Roast. The reviews were good. Zoey and I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond for several reasons but also to hopefully buy this coffee. They did not have it in the store but we could order it online and the shipping is free. Done!
Savings: $.57 a cup, 1 cup of coffee a day would be a $208 a year savings
* still thinking about Starbucks
-set a limit of once every 2 weeks?
-take the $208 I am saving and buy a $100 gift card for Starbucks
-go cold turkey and quit the Starbucks habit
-only go if I have a gift card (teachers do receive Starbucks gift cards occasionally)
