Hair

My first summer of saving adventure started with hair.  I needed a hair cut...badly!  I have developed a relationship with a very nice hair salon in my neighborhood.  Since I decided that this is the summer of looking at ALL of my spending and being more mindful of how I spend, I had to look at the area of "hair".
My salon charges 40+ dollars for a haircut, which comes with shampoo, styling, coffee and interesting conversation.  Fantastic Sam's in my area charges $14.95 for a haircut.  I decided to give it a try.  I walked into Fantastic Sam's (no appt. needed),  I used Fantastic Sam's website to see when their least busiest time is.  I waited maybe 5 minutes.   I got a lovely young female stylist who has been cutting hair for 9 years.  I brought a picture of the style I wanted.  She took her time, was meticulous and I got a great haircut.  I have to say the cut was equal if not even a little better than I get at my fancy salon.   I gave the stylist a $5 tip so was out the door for $20.  I saved about 30$.
Fantastic Sams does not have a beautiful sleek salon, I did not get a shampoo and my hair was not styled (however my stylist did dry it and styled it a little).  There was no free coffee.  The conversation with the stylist was polite and cordial.  Fantastic Sam's wants to give you a haircut for a low price.  They even told me to be on the look out for coupons to get a cut for $2 less.
I will go to Fantastic Sams again for a haircut.  I took the stylist's card and would request her.  I don't know if I got a great haircut because I just happened to get a great stylist?  I am not sure about highlighting my hair yet.  My salon does a great job, not sure I trust a place like Fantastic Sam's?
Final Result:  I will go to Fantastic Sam's for haircuts and will request the stylist that cut my hair.  If I am wanting to treat myself to a "spa like hair experience" occasionally, I will go to my fancy salon.  The jury is still out on other hair services such as highlights.

Savings:  $30 each haircut (4-6 times a year)=$120-$180 a year
