I say no.....and YES!

    Today I chose to face a huge test in my summer of savings challenge....I decided to take the grand girls shopping for their mom's birthday gift.  Her birthday is today and we are celebrating on Saturday.  The girls had come up with a couple of great gift ideas.
    First I made sure that we had a snack before we went so we wouldn't be tempted in that area.  We went to Target and Bed, Bath and Beyond in order to get all three items we wanted.  Target was tough especially in the adorable girls clothing sections.

I mustered all the will power I had and I said "no, its not in our plan today".

But then they asked if they could have books.

I said, "yes"!!!
Books are always a good idea!!  I wanted to shout to all the other shoppers, I have grand kids that want books!!!




A shout out to Bed, Bath and Beyond for their "BIG CHAIR" photo op!  That was fun!

In conclusion it is possible to shop with grandkids if you plan ahead and know what you are going for.  If you are going to go off the rails, make it in an area that you can totally support, like books!

Money I Should Have Spent

    I have written much about how to save money.  This is one about how I should have spent money!  I used a company for the last couple of years for fertilization of my lawn.  The lawn looked great. My house also came with a sprinkler system which I have had turned on in the spring and off in the fall since I have been here.      I decided in my summer of savings not to have the sprinkler system turned on.  We would water less and just use the old fashioned sprinkler when needed.  I also decided to not have a company fertilize, we would do it if needed.     Well, I now have dying weedy grass.  I have tried to be a gardener.  I am not a gardner!  I need to repeat that a few times.  I am NOT a gardner.  I am NOT a gardner.  I keep trying to be one and failing.  I do not enjoy gardening.     I do have a daughter who loves to garden.....when she feels like it and what she feel...

Check Out Aldi

    My mom has been shopping at Aldi for years now.  For some reason I got it in my head that Aldi carried cheap, poor quality, knock off brands of items.  One blogger wrote that she thought of Aldi as "the poor peoples' grocery store".   It wasn't until I took my mom shopping at her Aldi's that I finally got a good look at the products and prices.  I was impressed.  I also learned that Aldi owns Trader Joes!  So now that I have an open mind I have been shopping at Aldi.  Here is a recent trip to Aldi with cost compared to my usual grocery store (Kroger).
