Girl's Only

This post is for the ladies.  Can we talk about facial hair for a minute?  When I was younger I could tweeze an unwanted facial hair here and there and be good to go.  As I got older two things happened, first more facial hair and second less close up vision.  That is a bad combination.
A few years ago I discovered waxing at my hair salon.  What an amazing thing.  It didn't hurt near as bad as I thought it would and I was pleased with the results.
In my summer of savings I looked at how much waxing is costing me.  I stretch it as long as I can which is about 6 weeks.  It costs $15 for a chin wax (which I always need), $15 for the upper lip (I usually need) and $15 for eyebrows (which I rarely need).  My average cost is $30 plus $5 tip.  That is about $280 a year.
There are other issues as well besides the cost.  I have to make an appointment.  I can't always get an appointment before a special event.  I let things grow longer than I really want to in order to save money.
My first try at a saving money in this area was facial wax strips.

They were easy to use, inexpensive and no mess.  They did an ok job.  I can certainly see using these in a small area or for a quick emergency touch up but they did not do as good of a job as waxing.

After watching several youtube videos and reading reviews I decided to go for it, I ordered the above wax kit.   I ordered it off of Amazon for $51.99.  This was a tough decision but when I thought in terms of the kit costing less than 2 waxing appointments I was convinced.
Today was my first attempt at using it.   I relearned that wax is so sticky!  Just taking the top of the wax to put in the pot got my hands all sticky.  I am still trying to figure out how I got wax on my knee?

Now that the wax is in the heating pot, I don't have to take it out or mess with it until I need to replace it.  I got used to the technique pretty quickly.  When finished it did not look as  good as my professional waxing but it's not bad.  I am impressed with my first effort.  I am sure I will improve with practice.  I am going to love being able to choose when I want to wax and also how often.  No more stretching the time between waxings until I can braid hairs on my chin!

Money Saved:  $280/year minus $51.99 for wax kit = $228.01 saved per year
*I will need to order supplies now and then (strips, calming oil, sticks) but I think I can safely count on a savings of at least $200/year.
