So Off Topic...We Talk about Older Men
This is so completely off the topic of saving money.....I could maybe make a case for it being Sunday and all, a day of rest from my usual subject! Are you buying it?
Yesterday this cutie and I went to a Bridal Shower. As we drove there we had a discussion about proper social behavior at an event like this one. We talked about what kind of things were appropriate to bring up in conversation. We decided that politics was a big no-no (and has gotten to be an even bigger no-no than before)! We talked about how you shouldn't share real personal information about your life (thats a tricky one, what is too personal?). No hogging a conversation came up in our talk. That led to not hogging the guest of honor, she needed to spend time with all the guest not just us.
This little conversation is just a peek into life with a special needs young adult. At this point in my daughter's life so much of what I do is in the area of social skills training. At my job, I dare say 50% of what we spend our day on is social skills. It is a huge determiner of how successful a person will be in not only relationships but jobs. The good news is that scientific studies are proving that it is never too late to learn social skills.
So how did this cutie do? I would give her an A-, almost perfect! She did not hog conversation but was definitely a part of it. She did not hog the guest of honor. She was friendly and smiled at folks. She only brought up being disappointed in Trump once.....to a Trump supporter.....and I was a little worried for a minute.....but I drove us out of that minefield fast! She also brought up her new fascination with older men, like our 60+ year old neighbor. She concluded to the whole table that older men are much nicer, have time for you and are not jerks like young guys. Now there is some interesting conversation for you! I hit the gas on a new subject but we did return to that fascinating conversation in the car on the way home! My daughter truly is one of the most interesting people to talk to!
