Target Cartwheel has me doing Cartwheels

I of all people should not be explaining anything technology related but what I learned today is just so stinkin' cool, I can't resist.  Just saying "stinkin' cool" gives my age away!
I recently learned about the Target Cartwheel App.  An app is short for application.  The way that I understand it, you download an application to your phone.  I do it from iTunes since I have Apple products.   The Cartwheel App is free.  Once you have downloaded it, it will appear on your home screen (phone or computer).
See the square with the red grocery cart?  That is the Cartwheel app on my phone.
When I click on the Cartwheel app it opens to this (see image above).  You can then click on the category you are hoping to find deals in and find out the specials.
I clicked on "Back to School" and it shows me the specials above.  It is usually anywhere from 5% off to 50% savings.  In order to get that deal when you check out you need to click on the red + to the right of the product.
I knew all this before shopping today but I learned something that really got me excited.  I had been thinking that going thru 800 Cartwheel specials even if they are in categories takes a lot of time.  The cashier showed me that I can scan items that I am looking at while I am shopping and it will tell me if there is a special on it.  See the circled bar code in the cartwheel app in the picture below?  You click on that barcode and you can then scan barcodes of any item in the store.

This is an item I scanned and the app lets me know that there are no offers on this one right now.  It will give me some other items found in that same category that are on special.

When ready to check out, click on the check out button on the bottom and this screen will appear.  You have the cashier scan the barcode and any specials that you added (by hitting the red +) will automatically be applied to your bill.

If I can make this work for me, I am sure you can too!
Money Saved:  $1 today using the Cartwheel app, hopefully much more to come.

*Don't forget that a Target Red Card (you can make it either a credit or debit card) saves you 5% on top of the Cartwheel savings.

*Target often has promotions where if you buy a certain number of a given item you earn a $5 Target gift card.  Last time I went to Target I bought 3 ziplock bag items and received a $5 gift card which I used today.
Money Saved:  $5 with promotional gift card

Total Money Saved:  $1 Cartwheel + $2.74 Red Card Discount + $5 promotional gift card=$8.74
